new babies, new stitches

My brother and his boyfriend Matt have dear friends who just happened to welcome twin girls into their lives last week - Tallis and Vivian. I've been feeling creatively itchy lately (not contagious...I don't think) so I jumped on the opportunity to create something to gift to the happy parents, and itty bitty little girls.

Using blanket stitch, I carefully appliqued hand-cut letters out of vintage rainbow polka dot fabric in each of their names , and then I used the tiniest circles of felt to punctuate the Is. The stitches are housed in vintage metal frames that I've collected over the years, and finished off with some open weave Italian cotton ribbon (from Angela Liguori). These will be winging their way up to NYC this week, though I've been contemplating ways I can hand-deliver them...
