words i like

Naming the things I make has always been a struggle. For a while I was using city names, then first names I liked, and then I went with the straightforward approach of names that vaguely resembled what it was - this is true for HONOR and HOME, the two new 3" embroidery lines I have on the "shelves" at Oh Ginger. It really is a crapshoot, this naming stuff. When it comes to the larger pieces I plan to stitch, I had no idea how they would fit into my existing taxonomy. So I just decided to throw caution to the wind and name them whatever the hell I wanted...or, words I like.

This piece you see before you, with colors that remind me of this ridiculous southwestern theme t-shirt and shorts set I had when I was a preteen (the colors were great, the design...not so much), is called GUMPTION. I love this word. It is everything I want to be, on most days. And this piece is bright yet earthy, grounded and clear. I have a few more of these "color palette" style embroidery projects in the works, but this is my first, and arguably my favorite. I just added it to the shop.

  1. Gorgeous! And I agree, gumption is a fabulous word!

  2. Thank you, Sheila! My partner suggested MOXIE for the next stitch. We'll see! Thanks for coming by!

  3. Simple and great. Very nice palette
